Brad's Portrait

My Mom is a survivor, or so I've heard it said.

But, I hear her crying at night when all others are in bed.

I watch her lay awake at night and go to hold her hand.

She doesn't know I'm with her to help her understand.

But, like the sands on the beach that never wash away...

I watch over my surviving mom, who thinks of me each day.

She wears a smile for others...a smile of disguise.

But, through Heaven's door I see tears flowing from her eyes.

My Mom tries to cope with death to keep my memory alive.

But, anyone who knows her knows it is her way to survive.

As I watch over my surviving Mom...through Heaven's open door.

I try to tell her that angels protect me forever more.

But, I know that doesn't help her or ease the burden she bears.

So, if you get a chance, go visit her and show her that you care.

For no matter what she says...no matter what she feels.

My surviving Mom has a broken heart that time won't ever heal.

(Given to Brad's Mom by his friend, Lacy)

Dear Mommy,

I just wanted to say,

That I love you, and will everyday.

I'm sorry I had to go away,

I really did try to stay.

Tell my friends that it's okay,

We'll play again another day.

Please Mommy don't be mad,

I did try to stay, but God said no.

He said they need me there, I had to go,

He said it was a special mission.

I was told that only I could go,

I'm here with you now, is what you should know.

My love for you will never fade, but

Grow and grow everyday.

I'm your angel Mommy,

I'm here to see you through.

I have to go now Mommy,

But I'll be back real soon.

When you see a shadow, or feel a breeze

It's ME Mommy, please BELIEVE!

Don't grieve for me, for now I'm free,

I'm following the path God laid for me.

I took HIS hand when I heard HIS call,

I turned my back and left it all.

I could not stay another day,

To laugh, to love, to work or play.

Tasks left undone must stay that way.

I found that peace at the close of day.

If my parting has left a void,

Then fill it with remembered joy.

A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss,

Ah yes, these things I too will miss.

Be not burdened with times of sorrow,

I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow.

My life's been full, I've savored much,

Good friends, good times, a love one's touch.

Perhaps my time seemed all too brief,

Don't lengthen it now with undue grief.

Lift up your hearts and share with me.

God wanted me now

God Set Me Free!

You are not forgotten, loved one

Nor will you ever be.

As long as life and memory last,

We will remember thee.

We miss you now,

Our hearts are sore.

As time goes by,

We'll miss you more.

Your loving smile, your gentle face,

No one can fill your vacant place.

The one who leaves

a legacy of love

to generations that follow

has lived a life worth remembering.

The one who leaves gentle footprints

on our hearts has left a story worth telling.

The one who leaves

happy memories

dancing in our thoughts

has given the gift of timeless moments

worth holding in our hearts forever.

Those we love don't go away,

They walk beside us everyday,

Unseen, unheard,

But, always near,

Still loved, still missed,

Still very dear.

by Christine Ross in Memory of Brad

Brad, You'll always be my son,

And I will always be your Mom.

No matter if it's years from now,

I'll long for yesterday to come.

The distance that is between us,

Can never separate our hearts,

And on the day that I join you,

Again our yesterday will start.

That yesterday when you were here,

When our time had only begun.

Brad, I'll always be your Mom,

And you will always be my son.
